Regulated Overview

Product Details

This half-day qualification is suitable for everyone, especially those who come into contact with children or adults at risk in their workplace or activity group.

The qualification helps learners safeguard children and adults by understanding different types of abuse. Learners will understand different indicators for concern and how to listen to the individual so they can effectively record and report their concerns to the appropriate person or authority.

The Safeguarding of Adults at Risk was previously referred to as Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) and this course covers content originally found in POVA courses.

It is important everyone understands Safeguarding, as it is only by working together will we keep children, young people and adults at risk of harm safe.

  • Those working with children or adults at risk
  • Health and Social Care
  • Activity or community groups

  • Awareness of safeguarding legislation
  • Awareness of key safeguarding roles
  • Aware of the different types of abuse
  • Aware of the indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Know what action to take if a safeguarding concern arises

The Safeguarding training course is facilitated through group and class discussions to involve all candidates and to ensure all candidates are grasping the board topics ready for the assessment.

There is no post-course learning for this course.

You can arrange a program of support from Dewi Development Ltd for your staff, this can include ongoing coaching, annual Continual Professional Development or access to a debrief session.

The Continual Professional Development can focus on scenarios your staff may face across a range of topics, ensuring they would respond appropriately and information is fresh in their mind.

The Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding course includes interactive group discussion which is monitored by the tutor and a written question paper at the end of the course.

Successful candidates will be issued with an Ofqual regulated Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding by the awarding body First Aid Awards (FAA).

Renewal

The Awareness of Safeguarding qualification does not expire, but Continual Professional Development is recommended to keep up to date with changes in best practices and legislation. Some companies, awarding bodies or member organisations required yearly CPD takes place to maintain current knowledge.

We can deliver the training at your venue which has a suitable training room or we can support you in arranging a suitable external venue. Training at your venue can save you costs but be aware staff can be distracted by day-to-day concerns.

Locations will require:

  • Room big enough to sit 16 candidates in a horseshoe
  • Tables for group work and assessment at the end of the session
  • Projector and screen with computer connection, however, we can provide a projector with a laptop on request

While we will deliver our courses across the country, we focus on supporting local businesses in south Wales from Cardigan to Haverfordwest, Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.

The course will have one planned break. No refreshments are included when delivered at one of your venues, but tea and coffee will be included when delivered at a venue arranged by ourselves.

This Safeguarding course is open to all. If there are any learning or physical needs, these should be notified in advance of the course to see what reasonable adjustments can be made in liaison with the awarding body.

Age

Young people from the age of 14 can attend this course with parental consent, however, individuals should be aware the course deals with sensitive topics.

While an individual from 14 can gain the knowledge, it does not mean a 14 old should be dealing with safeguarding concerns. The business should make appropriate arrangements to ensure concerns are dealt with by an individual of appropriate age and experience.
