Dewi Development is excited to be starting 2020 by launching the Level 3 Outdoor First Aid course, available for delivery at your premises from February 2020.
The 16-hour accredited course meets the requirements of outdoor qualifications making it ideal for Duke of Edinburgh participants and supervisors, as well as Walking Group Leaders, Mountain Leaders and outdoor enthusiast.
The course focuses on injuries that can be sustained in the outdoors and medical conditions that could add complications to a day of activity. While topics can be similar to other first aid courses, the course focuses on an ambulance not being able to get to you and the help arriving in the form of mountain rescue or a helicopter. As this help could potentially take hours, the course considers long term care, thinking about the impact of the environment and the risk of hypothermia setting in.
The course is uniquely delivered through trained acting casualties, who can deliver near-real scenarios, that allow you to practise your first aid, scene management and leadership skills. As the course develops, the scenarios make you feel more remote and build your confidence to look after a casualty in a remote location. While the delivery style of utilising trained acting casualties, makes the course more expensive than others on the market, students report the experience gained in two days is invaluable and cannot be gained in any other way with such excellent feedback from the casualties themselves.
