Product Details

This one-day Manual Handling course provides learners with an understanding of the poor impact of manual handling to themselves as well as the business and helps them consider how they can carry out tasks in a safe manner.

We all carry out manual handling tasks on a daily basis from lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing actions. As young children, we demonstrate good manual handling technique, but as we grow, we develop poor habits that put us at high risk of injury. These poor techniques result in over one million working days lost per year, as well as suffering for the individual.

The course promotes good manual handling techniques (also referred to as Safer Handling) which apply in and out of work, ensuring we stay safe, but also meets the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

A range of topics are covered including:

  • Understand the reasons for safe manual handling in business
  • Understand the impact of poor manual handling on individuals
  • Understand how manual handling risk assessments improve health and safety
  • Understand the types of equipment to assist manual handling
  • Understand the testing requirements associated with manual equipment
  • Be able to apply principles of manual handling

The course is facilitated through group and class discussion to involve all candidates and to ensure all candidates are grasping the board topics ready for the assessment.

There are practical sessions to practice the base principles of moving various common items found in the workplace and everyday life.

Candidates can wear clothing that they feel comfortable to support their learning and take part in group discussions. Candidates should be aware that there are practical manual handling sessions, where best practice recommends flat shoes and trousers.

The minimum price is for 6 people, with an additional cost per candidate up to the maximum number for the additional resources.

The price includes:

  • Candidate registration fees
  • Certification
  • Course handbook

The group price is based on training at your venue for the maximum number of candidates. If you do not have a suitable training venue, we can work with you to arrange a venue near you at an additional cost.

There may be additional expense costs depending on your location.

The course includes a Manual Handling - Principles and Practice handbook produced by Instructuk Resources Ltd to support the course.

The course includes an ongoing practical assessment which is monitored by the tutor and a written paper at the end of the course.

Successful candidates will be issued with an Ofqual regulated Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace by the awarding body First Aid Awards.

Renewal

The qualification does not expire, but refresher training is recommended to keep up to date with changes in best practise and legislation.

We can deliver the training at your venue which has a suitable training room or we can support you in arranging a suitable external venue. Training at your venue can save you costs but at the same time risk your staff being distracted by day to day concerns that arise, which may not be suitable as they approach the assessment.

Locations will require:

  • Room big enough to sit 16 candidates to sit in a horseshoe
  • Tables for group work and assessment at the end of the session
  • Projector and screen with computer connection, however, we can provide a projector with laptop

While we will deliver our courses across the country, we focus on supporting local businesses in south Wales from Cardigan to Haverfordwest, Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.

The course will have three planned breaks, including lunch. No refreshments are included when delivered at one of your venues, but tea and coffee will be included when delivered at a venue arranged by ourselves.

Candidate Needs

The practical sessions will involve moving common workplace items, which will require lifting light items from the floor to the desk or from desks to other surfaces. Manual handling is designed to protect the body, but if anyone has any concerns, they should get in touch before the course.

If candidates have any physical or learning needs for the group work or for the assessment, this should be notified as part of the booking.
