Annual FA Group Course Overview

An opportunity to practise your first aid skills through a half-day or full-day set of scenarios and quizzes. Scenarios are tailored to your learning needs, accident history and business environments. Every course will be different depending on your candidate needs.

We will discuss with you prior to the workshop your requirements to understand your business, your candidate needs and how active your first aider is. We will use this information to design very hands-on scenario-based session to practise the first aiders skills but backed up with group activities or quizzes to refresh underpinning knowledge. Through the workshop, we will observe the skills of the candidates and will adapt the session to areas we identify need further practise. This will make every workshop different and means you can have different workshops for office staff, shop floor attendants and delivery drivers.

Annual FA Syllabus

The focus of the workshop is to practise skills and knowledge relating to first aid in your area of business. We will discuss your needs prior to the session, to design the ideal workshop for your team. We may also start the workshop with a scenario to see how candidates perform and will then adapt the session to the needs identified from the candidates.

Some of the topics you can consider to include are:

  • Assessment of the situation
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Control of bleeding
  • Shock
  • Burns
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Head injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Eye injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Effects of temperature
  • Heart attacks
  • Diabetes

Delivery style

The session is very hands-on, practising various first aid techniques. This will mean candidates needing to get down to the floor.

Candidates can wear clothing that they feel comfortable to support their learning while taking part in group discussions and practical sessions with other candidates. Candidates should be aware they may be practising placing one another in the recovery position and/or practising resuscitation. We, therefore, recommend flat shoes, trousers and to be cautious of baggy low tops.

There are no included resources, as the session practises skills already learnt.

Annual FA Prerequisite

You need to hold a current Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work, Paediatric First Aid or equivalent.

Candidate Needs

The workshop involves various practical activities, where candidates will need to get down to the floor to practise their first aid skills. This may include practising recovery position and/or demonstrating effective resuscitation for a minimum amount of time. If you have any concerns about carrying out these activities, you should get in touch before booking the course.

If candidates have any physical or learning needs for the group work this should be notified as part of the booking.

We can deliver the training at your venue which has a suitable training room or we can support you in arranging a suitable external venue.

Locations will require:

  • Room big enough to sit 12 candidates in a horseshoe
  • Tables for group work
  • Floor space to practise their first aid skills
  • A projector and screen with computer connection may be required, however, we can provide a projector with laptop

We can consider delivering this session in facilities similar to where you work, rather than in a training room, subject to us completing a suitable risk assessment. Please contact us to discuss the options of scenarios based in realistic settings.

The workshop will have one or three planned breaks per day, depending on duration. No refreshments are included when delivered at one of your venues, but tea and coffee will be included when delivered at a venue arranged by ourselves.
